Why we sometimes cannot recommend anyone yet
Sometimes the honest answer is that we have nobody to send you to. That is a real answer and we would rather give it than manufacture a suggestion.
Because the list is genuinely small
We are building county by county, starting with Mayo, and an organisation only appears once the facts we would rely on have been checked. Early on that means the list is short. It will stay short before it gets long, and a short honest list is the point rather than an embarrassment.
Because your stage does not have an answer yet
At the earliest stages the useful next step is usually not in Ireland at all. It is a certificate, a naturalisation file or a parish register in the country your family emigrated to. Sending you to an Irish county centre at that point would waste your money and their time.
Because we cannot confirm they cover your part of the county
Two centres can divide one county between them, and knowing the county is not always enough to tell which one covers your family’s corner of it. Where that is unresolved we will say an organisation may be relevant. We will not call it a recommendation, because it is not one.
Because something about them is unverified
If a fact a recommendation would rest on has not been established, the recommendation does not happen. The organisation is not being criticised and nothing is being alleged about them. We simply have not done the work yet.
What we do instead
You still get your stage, the reason for it, and the next step that is worth taking. Where we have nobody to name, we say so in that place rather than showing you an empty page.
